One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure

Well woman in this case!.

We have this thing in Auckland called Inorganics where once a year you get notified to put all your unwanted household items out on the curbside.

It's my favourite time of the year, aside from holidays that is!

I took my Mum out for a 'drive' yesterday! She was a bit mortified to start with as I would slam the brakes on and leap out the car to grab whatever it was had caught my eye!

You have to be quick otherwise someone else will get it!

Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this up a quiet street. It was filled with rubbish and water and I am screaming hysterically at Mum that there was no way I was leaving it, I would push it all the way home if I had to!!!

Anyway, emptied the rubbish and drained it of water, pushed it up a hill to a park where Mum and I 'discretely' unloaded the car of all the other 'treasures' and then re packed it to accommodate THIS!!!

Can you believe it?????

It was so funny, Mum and I practically wet ourselves with laughter while struggling with it, discretely!

Photo's don't do it any justice as I took them at night inside my 'studio'. Mum thinks its late 1950's, older than what she used to push us in. It's actually huge and even though the tyres are pretty much gone it still pushes like a charm!
I'll show you what else I got over the next few days, its like being a child in a candy store for me!!!

She has also left an invitation for you along with some flowers.

We have something similar, every year when the college students leave for the year, they throw away all their furniture and big things they don't want to move. I drive up and down the roads in truck scooping up pieces to paint.

they don't have cool old baby buggies like that in their apartments, though. Unless that buggy would hold a keg of beer.

you're lucky you have that where you are, up here we only have the normal rubbish collections, no recycling at all...

you're so funny i can just picture it!
we have a 'hard rubbish collection' a few times a year and i have been known to stop and take a wicker chair or two~! It's apparently illegal to take stuff here... not sure why or how. probably because the local council can make money off it reselling at the recycling depot

What fun and I look forward to seeing all your other treasures. We also have a junk day every year and now they want us to put the items out three days early so the pickers can check it out. It saves the city thousands of dollars to do this.

Hugs Karen

You just crack me up- "your favorite time of the year besides the holidays"! Glad you found something good- it kind of reminds me of the buggy my mother used in the early 60's.

I know some communities do this, unfortunately ours does not. But that buggy - I had one when my kids were babes - don't remember now where I got it. But it was great. You could push those big springy wheels over a mountain if you needed to.

i would have a hard time trying to convince david that the buggy was already in the garage....and he just didn't remember it being there for "years"...lol...guess i used that for quite a while now...do you think he has caught on? hee hee...
